Women’s Aid is a national charity providing advice, information and training to professionals. It also provides best practice guidance and standards for the delivery of refuge accommodation. Respect is the UK membership organisation for work with domestic violence perpetrators, male victims and young people. It provides training for professionals and accreditation for perpetrator programmes. Galop is a national charity providing specialist advice, support and a listening service for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender people. It will also provide information about local charities such as IDAS that can offer face to face support. Men’s Advice Line provides specific advice for male victims of domestic abuse. It will also provide information about local charities that work with and support male victims such as IDAS. The line is available on 0808 801 0327 and the web address is www.mensadviceline.org.uk
Safe Lives is a national charity that provides advice, training and information to professionals working within the field of domestic abuse. http://thisisabuse.direct.gov.uk/ is an excellent website which was developed by the government to provide information, resources and online support to young people. It provides a range of information about domestic abuse, healthy relationships and sexual violence.
Rape Crisis provides a national helpline to anyone who has been sexually assaulted or raped. It also provides a range of information about local agencies that are available to help victims and survivors. The helpline is available on 0808 802 9999 and the web address is www.rapecrisis.org.uk
The National Centre for Domestic Violence is a ‘not for profit’ organisation that provides a free, fast emergency injunction service to survivors of domestic violence where the incident of violence has happened recently. For more information visit www.ncdv.org.uk or ring 0808 970 2070.
National Ugly Mugs is a UK charity set up to end violence against sex workers, escorts and prostitutes. Agencies and individuals can sign up to NUM for free to report incidents and receive warnings about dangerous individuals.
