Support families escaping abuse this Christmas

This Christmas, hundreds of families in Yorkshire will be living in emergency accommodation having escaped violence and abuse. Many will have left with nothing, leaving their belongings behind to find a place of safety in our refuges and emergency accommodation. As our teams continue to provide, emergency accommodation to these families and emotional and practical support to thousands of other families who are experiencing domestic abuse over the festive season, please support our work.

Help families celebrate the festive season free from domestic abuse by making a cash donation. This supports our helpline and face to face work.

I don’t know how I would have got through Christmas without the support of refuge and local community as my kids would not have had anything to open

Giving a family the freedom to make their own choices about what they buy their children during the festive season is one of the best gifts that you can give.

You can give a gift card or voucher that we can pass on to families in need. You can buy these at a supermarket and post them to our central office in York, IDAS, St Mary’s Court, 39 Blossom Street, York. YO24 1AQ

Alternatively, you may like to gift new items from the list below:

  • New bedding sets for children and adults, standard double and singles
  • New towels
  • New household goods e.g. Pans/crockery sets/cutlery sets/Kitchen utensils
  • Cheap mobile phone and sim card packages

Unfortunately, we are not able to accept any second hand, used, open or edible items at this time.

This has been the best Christmas as we have felt safe and had lots of fun whilst being at refuge – we never usually had a Christmas day as the violence always took over but I have been able to make it special
