Get active for IDAS!
In 2018 we have places available in three sporting events:
- York 10K (5th August 2018);
- Yorkshire Marathon (14th October 2018);
- Yorkshire 10 Mile (14th October 2018).
We will cover the cost of your place in the race and provide you with an IDAS running vest. We encourage anyone taking part in the 10k to aim to raise £200. If you would like to take a place in the Yorkshire Marathon you should aim to raise at least £600. If you set your target high, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve. Many people easily beat their target last year and some even had the amount they raised doubled by their employers. We’ll give you plenty of help and support, whatever your fundraising journey.
If you would like to take part in any of these events and raise money for IDAS, please click here to sign up. We will use the information you provide to reserve a place for you in your chosen event.Register for a sporting event now
If you can’t take part in any of the sporting events, there are other ways you can take steps to end domestic abuse.
On 12th May, Becca’s walk, a memorial walk and Family Fun Day, will be held in West Tanfield, nr Ripon to mark the 10th anniversary of Rebecca Kowal’s death.
In May 2008, Andy Overton, lost his sister Rebecca Kowal to domestic abuse. Rebecca was murdered by her partner having suffered years of abuse. Since Becca’s death, Andy has become an IDAS Champion & Ambassador. Andy and his family have bravely spoken out about their experiences and have run an annual memorial walk in Rebecca’s name, raising money for IDAS. This year will be the 10th anniversary of Rebecca’s death and the last public memorial event that the family will hold in her name. Andy and his family have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of domestic abuse to help other families get help and support before it’s too late. The family hope that this event will be the largest yet.
The day has something for everyone:

Organise your own event
It can be easy to hold a fundraising event and, as well as money, this can help by raising awareness about the services IDAS provides. Some people hold supper evenings and coffee mornings and donate the proceeds to us, others have taken part in sponsored runs, swims and cycles for us. If you work for a company, perhaps you could hold a sponsored event, have a dress down day or ask for one of our collection tins to display. If you would like to get involved in an organised event just let us know by emailing [email protected]
"I genuinely feel that what IDAS does is amazing, without knowing that IDAS was there I’m not sure I would have found the strength to leave. Thank you IDAS, you have saved our lives."
