We work in the refuges from 8am until 8pm and provide support on a range of things including benefits, housing, legal matters, maximising income, emotional issues, accessing counselling, registering children with schools and doctors and moving on from domestic abuse. Some women stay with us whilst we work to make their properties safe for them to return to, others stay until they are re-housed.
The refuges can also offer you the opportunity to have time away from a violent relationship to consider what your best options are.
Our main aims are to give you choices and to help you to work towards achieving your goals.
The communal living part of refuge life can be challenging as you will be around other women and children. However, many women who come into refuge find the support of other women who've experienced domestic abuse absolutely crucial.
The support we offer is free of charge and most women are able to claim housing benefit to pay for their accommodation in the refuge.
