How we work

We provide support to victims of domestic abuse in a variety of ways. We never judge victims of abuse, we take seriously what they tell us and work with them to find the best solution to suit their individual needs.

The outreach service: we employ outreach workers who support victims living in the community. On referral, the worker will carry out a needs assessment and provide services accordingly. These services include practical support, advice, advocacy, assistance with legal matters and emotional support.

The outreach worker will make an appointment to see the client within a week of them being referred to the service.

Our outreach team support both men and women who are experiencing domestic abuse. We also support people experiencing violence in same sex relationships.

Refuges: we run a purpose built refuge in York and a refuge in Harrogate. Both refuges house women and children who are escaping domestic abuse.

Refuge staff provide high levels of support to women and children resident in the refuge. This continues until they either return home with legal protection or are re-housed.

When we don't have space in our refuges we will always find alternative safe space in another refuge or suitable accommodation. This part of our service is affiliated to the Women's Aid Federation of England - www.womensaid.org.uk

Children and young people: In some areas we are able to provide one to one support and groups for children and young people. For more information or to make a referral email: info@idas.org.uk
